Windsurfer LT NZ events are about shared fun experiences, not just about the race results. However, two similar boards on the water is the definition of a race!

Most Windsurfer LT NZ events are designed to be a shared adventure. In addition, the Windsurfer LT is an excellent board to test your racing skills against very experienced sailors. Divisions and race formats cater to all abilities. Some races are handicap starts and courses, which allow everyone a better chance to sail from the front of the fleet and win races, while still rewarding the top sailors.

Some events are designed to make full use of the features of the equipment, which allow for shallow-water and long-distance sailing, through a wide range of wind and water conditions with the 5.7 metre rig. This allows us to explore new places, often not possible on other sailing craft.

4.5 metre sails are available for junior, youth, small and inexperienced sailors.

Motutapu Challenge 2026

March 21st & 22nd

This weekend event will be similar to last year’s event
(see its video here).

  • On the Saturday, we race from the boat ramp on Bucklands Beach, leaving at 8:30am sharp so we can be sure to catch the high tide at Islington Bay. We carry our boards and rigs across to Gardiners Gap, then sail from there along the north side of Motutapu Island to Administration Bay. We will spend the night there at the Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp.
  • On Sunday we will race back to Bucklands Beach.
  • Both day’s races are likely to be broken into stages to be determined on the day. We might sail clockwise or anti-clockwise around Rangitoto Island, Motutapu Island or between Islington Bay and Gardiner Gap depending on the weather. Exact details will be decided and notified to the sailors during the event.
  • Hopefully all sailors and support crew will be running trackers on their phones, mostly already installed from the recent Waiheke Interdominion Championship regatta.
  • Click here to enter and register for this event at the shop.
  • After Wednesday 18th information updates will be posted via the “Windsurfer LT New Zealand” Whatsapp group.
